Good rains bring smile on farmers faces
DH News Service Chintmani:

The agriculture activities in the taluk is in full swing following good rains and there is healthy crop cultivation.
The taluk had suffered in the last couple of years due to the failure of monsoon. But though the monsoon arrived a bit late the farmers are happy that there are good rains. The cloudy weather and incessant rains have perked up agriculture activities. Once or twice there have been heavy rains too.
Nearly 95.2 pc of sowing has taken place so far. There should have been 516 mm  of rainfall up to September but it has already recorded 541.8 mm rainfall.  The farmers are delighted with the taluks major crops groundnut and ragi.
Disease free
The crops are not suffering from any disease. The effect of the rain will be there for 15 days. Afterwards if it rains just once it will be enough for the crops to grown. Since the last five years there was no such crop.
The farmers’ mood is very positive, said agriculture director H G Sriramreddy.
Hope reigns
There is every hope of a good ragi yield this year. The feed for the cattle is almost certain. Sriramreddy has advised that farmers should use 25 kg urea for manure for every acre to grow ragi. The togari crop is also showing healthy signs of cultivation in two to two-and-a-half months. Even this has not showed any signs of disease.
The 12 to 15 lakes in the taluk are full and there is sufficient water to last two months. The aim this year is to sow seeds in 25,575 hectares and so far it has crossed 27,435 hectares.
The groundnut is the major crop this year said the agriculture department officials to Deccan Herald.
