Raghu steals the show

In a thrilling contest, Raghu D of Al-Ameen College got the better of Rakesh B by one tenth of a second to win the men’s 5000M at the 43rd Bangalore University inter-collegiate athletic meet at the Sree Kanteerava stadium here on Tuesday.
Rakesh had a healthy lead of more than ten metres going into the final 200 metres. But Raghu battled hard to close on the gap. In to the homestretch, both players went neck and neck. However, the Al-Ameen College lad found enough energy to take the gold in 16 minutes 47.9 seconds.
Sree Bhagavan Mahaveer Jain College’s Rakesh came second in 16:48.00 while Harish H M of GFGC ended third in 16.50.6.
Bindu has it easy
G Bindu Rani easily won the 200M in the women’s section. The SBMJC athlete timed 24.9 seconds. Vanditha of Surana College clocked 26.4 seconds to take silver while Revathi of Maharani’s Arts College (26.5) claimed the bronze. Former national junior champion G N Bopanna powered to victory in the men’s 200M, stopping the clock at 21.8 seconds.
