Humpy eyes world crown
Grandmaster Koneru Humpy said she has set her eyes on winning next year’s Women’s World Chess Championship.
“My main opponents are going to be Alexandra Kostenvik of Russia, Xu Yuhua and Zhu Chen of China and Stefanova of Bulgaria in the tournament,” the Grandmaster was quoted as saying.
New coach by Sep 27: Shah
The new India coach would be selected by September 27, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Niranjan Shah said, reports UNI from Mumbai.
Speaking to mediapersons after the selection committee meeting on Tuesday Shah said they had asked interested candidates to submit their applications to the BCCI by September 15.
Mahindra go down to Nejmeh
Mahindra United failed to capitalise on their chances and went down 1-2 against Lebanon’s Al Nejmeh club in the first leg of the AFC Cup quarterfinal at the Ambedkar Stadium, reports PTI from New Delhi.
The Mumbai outfit took the lead in the 46th minute through Mohammad Rafi but Mohammad Ghaddar scored a brace with goals in the 55th and 85th minute.

Cricket set for Games debut
Twenty20 cricket, along with Dance Sport, Dragon Boat race, Roller sport and the ancient Chinese board game of Weiqi, will make their debut when Guangzhou hosts the 16th Asian Games in 2010, reports PTI from New Delhi.
An estimated 14,000 athletes and officials would converge in the Chinese city to take part in the sporting extravaganza that would host 42 events Fang Daer, Marketing Director of the Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee, said.
Indian paddlers bow out
Indian men paddlers team failed to qualify for the semifinals of the team event in the 18th Asian table tennis Championship played at Yangzhou, China, after being blanked 0-3 by third seeds Hong Kong in the quarterfinals, reports UNI.
PCB changes selection policy
Pakistan Cricket Board has announced its new selection policy, which gives the team manager power to finalise the playing eleven on away tours with the selection committee having the final say in a home series, reports PTI from Karachi.
Murali in for England series
Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has been included in a 15-man squad for a five-match one-day series against England starting in October, reports Reuters from Colombo.
Uncapped all-rounder Dilruwan Perera has been included in the squad and may cover for Muralitharan should he delay his comeback until the end of the series.
Usmanov buys Arsenal share 
An investment company controlled by Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov has become the second-largest shareholder in English Premiership football team Arsenal, reports AFP from London.
McLaren drop points appeal
McLaren, stripped of all their Formula One constructors' points due to a spying controversy, have dropped an appeal against a penalty imposed at the Hungarian Grand Prix in August, reports Reuters from London.
The FIA said the Mercedes-powered team had notified them that they wished to withdraw the appeal which would have been heard in Paris on Wednesday.
