MNC PCs beat local brands: Gartner
New Delhi, pti:

Home grown personal computer brands are losing out to the multinational brands in terms of sales, growth rates and marketing activities, says a latest study.

Domestic branded vendors such as HCL, Zenith, Wipro and PCS accounted for only 14 per cent of the the country’s desk-based PC market and six per cent of the mobile PC market during the first half of this year, says the study by research firm Gartner. “Unable to withstand the pressure of marketing blitz and reach of the MNC brands, local brands have almost exited the consumer segment and are re-thinking their strategy to focus more on government, education and Small & Medium Business segments,” Gartner Principal Research Analyst for client computing group Diptarup Chakraborti said.

Shipment by Indian vendors rose 18 per cent in 2006 and 35 per cent in 2005, while MNC shipments grew 73 per cent last year and 50 per cent in 2005.
