Social worker from Kundugere of Gundlupet taluk, R Gopal on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the district incharge minister at the valedictory of the first district Kannada Sahitya Sammelan, against the verdict of the Cauvery Water Tribunal.
The memorandum, while stating that the agitation won’t stop until justice is done to the State, in the distribution of Cauvery water, also demands that the Centre must grant classical language status to Kannada. The tribunal states that 740 TMC of water is collected in the Cauvery basin. Of this 37 TMC has been given to Kerala and Pondicherry, while 14 TMC is used for environment conservation and lost to evaporation. The remaining 689 TMC, should be equally shared at 334.5 TMC each by Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the memo states. Including the border areas, 389 TMC of the Cauvery water flows in Karnataka. This being the case, injustice is being meted out to Karnataka, the memo adds.
