The Karnataka Milk Union Federation (KMF) has prepared a Rs 300 crore project for the overall development of 13 milk unions in the State, KMF Chairman and PWD Minister H D Revanna said here on Wednesday.
He was speaking at a function at the Mandya Milk Union limited (MANMUL) premises in Gejjalagere near here, after inaugurating the new milk packaging unit. Karnataka stands second in milk production and the total turnover has crossed Rs 2,000 crore. At present, on an average 34 lakh litres of milk is procured per day in the State, Revanna said. Hence, KMF is planning to establish a milk packaging unit in Bangalore, he said.
Presiding over the function, district incharge Minister Cheluvarayaswamy, said that in order to help the farmer community, there is a need to establish dairies in every village in the district.
MANMUL president Boregowda in his speech said that at present, the Union was procuring 3.39 lakh kg of milk per day. Its milk processing capacity per day is two lakh kg. MLAs Puttegowda and M Srinivas, besides governing body members were present at the function.
