Congress party does not have moral right to seek votes from the people for the local body elections, said MLC Y S V Datta.
Speaking at a press meet organised at the party office in Kadur, he said the JD(S) will contest in all city corporations, town municipalities and city municipalities independently, as the the party enjoys moral strength.
The efficiency of the government and the contribution of the party towards social justice has infused strength in the party.
JD(S) will hold the reins of power in the local bodies, he said.
The Congress party has been in power since independence, but it has been granting paltry sums as funds to the local bodies.
On the other hand, when H D Deve Gowda was the Chief Minister in 1995, he had fulfilled basic infrastructure needs of the local bodies and implemented the project to legalise Ashraya houses of the poor at low costs.
The project was put in the backseat by the S M Krishna government.
However, Kumaraswamy government has put the project back on track and given grants of crores of rupees to local bodies.
The credit for providing ration cards to citizens in cities and towns, which was restricted to poor villagers earlier, goes to Mr Deve Gowda, he lauded.
“Citizens of Kadur town have voted JD(S) to power twice. The party was built by party leaders and workers through hardwork.
After becoming MLC, out of Rs 1 crore grant, I have provided Rs 13 lakh for ensuring basic amenities in Kadur town. If the party is voted back to power, investigations will be conducted into all the illegal works undertaken by the previous municipal administration and the culprits will the punished,” he assured.
