Solutions for home security
Shivani Mody

This time a burglar enters your house, there will be no need to panic or call the police. With a view to create awareness about safety and security among citizens, Zicom Electronics Security Systems has opened up its first exclusive retail outlet in Jayanagar recently - the first of its kind in Karnataka.

CEO, Zicom, Consumer Service Group, Santonu Choudhury said,"We currently have 20 outlets and 50 shop-in-shops (SIS) across the country." The company is in talks with Spencers, Shopper's Stop among others to offer more SISs said Choudhury, who also added, "We aim to increase it to 200 retail outlets and 800 shop-in-shops by 2009-10."

A range of products including the alarm systems, CCTV and a video door phone system will be available in these stores for customers to get a first hand experience.

"The alarm system can be up and running in 72 hours and is easy to operate using a key-like remote control," said Choudhury. The remote control will also have a panic button which will be connected to a 24x7 customer alert service.

In case the button is pressed and the alarm is raised, customer executives will call the home or the shop. And if the person on the phone does not give a response or a proper password, the police is directly contacted.
"The police is aware of the services we provide and we have received a positive response from them," informed Choudhury.

The company also has plans to launch a personal range of security products by December this year. Along with home automation, the CCTV surveillance system can be integrated with the point-of-sale in the retail business.
"This will help reduce instances of theft and shop lifting, saving lot of cost for retail shops," Choudhury said.
The basic alarm system will cost Rs 8000 while additional sensors for the windows will be Rs 600 each.
The video door phone system will be available at Rs 22,000.
