Three persons were arrested on charges of making and selling spurious liquor. A police team led by inspector J G Manjunath arrested the accused along with the materials used for preparing spurious liquor.
The police who were on duty near Echanur gate on Tiptur-Turuvekere Road on September 18, noticed an autorickshaw coming. Growing suspicious, the police stopped the auto and questioned Nagaraj B Ningappa, Nagaraj B Nanjappa and Srinivas. When they gave vague replies, the police searched the auto an found 109 whisky bottles, 37 empty bottles and 588 fake labels and corks. When they were subjected to questioning in the police station, it came to light that they were involved in the manufacture of spurious liquor and selling them.
A case has been registered and the accused were produced in the court. Sub inspector Umesh and his staff were involved in finding out the culprits.
Man kills wife
Suspecting his wife’s fidelity a mason strangled his wife to death after plying her with liquor. The incident occurred at Indiranagar in the town. Yashoda (22) hails from Channapatna and is said to be a woman of virtue.
The neighbours have complained that Venkatesh was an alcoholic who was torturing his wife on one pretext or the other. On September 17, he deliberately picked up a quarrel and deliberately gave her liquor.
Later, he strangled her to death. On a complaint filed by Bhovi Sangha secretary Krishnappa town inspector C C Patil registered a case and arrested the accused. He was produced in the court.
