Crafts festival
Crafts Festival, an exhibition of eye catching handicrafts and handlooms from all over India is on at the Premachandra Kalyana Mantap in Jayanagar. The exhibition-cum-sale which started on September 20, showcases a wide variety of beautiful works created by skilled artisans from all over India.
The main highlight of the exhibition are necklaces with precious and semi precious stones in pure silver, sheesham wood articles like partitions, garden chairs, stools, candle stands from Sharanpur, terracoota from Lolkata, patta paintings from Orissa, pattachitra and palm leaf engravings with scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, stone paintings, silk paintings, greeting card paintings, Chinnapatnam furniture like swings, writing desks, drawer cupboards, fruit bowls, jewel boxes, key holders, tea-costers, black-metal items, one gram gold jewllery, bangles from Jaipur, chikan work dresses from Lucknow, Kashmiri dress materials and tops, bed sheets and bed spreads from Rajasthan, a wide range of colourful curtains, Jute and fancy bags.
For every purchase a special discount of 10 per cent on handicrafts and upto 20 per cent on handlooms is given. The exhibition will be open till September 30, including Sundays between 10 am and 9 pm.
Tai Chi classes
The Zone, Mind and Body Studio, is offering a 25-session course in Tai Chi from October 3. The classes will be conducted by Tai Chi Master K V Subramanyan. The course fees will be Rs 6,000. Tai Chi is an eminent Chinese art, a physical and mental discipline, similar in some respects to Hatha Yoga, Kundalini Yoga and other eastern esoteric systems, which activate the internal energy. This activation of internal energy is known as ‘Chi’ in Chinese and ‘Prana’ in Sanskrit.
Tai-Chi is a series of integrated movements practiced in a slow rhythm with a relaxed and concentrated mind, and no muscular tension. Though slow and never done in a hurry, it is rich and magical.
Tai-Chi is ideal for people of any age to practice and it helps improve general health. It is also useful for individuals with arthritis or for those recovering from injuries. Diabetic and footcare camp
The Apollo Clinic, Malleswaram is organising a diabetic and footcare camp from September 20 to 27, under the care of diabetologist Dr Aravind and vascular surgeon Dr Chandrashekar.
