The Aligarh Muslim University administration today lodged FIRs against its 25 students, including the varsity student union General Secretary, in connection with Sunday's violence in the campus that led to the sine die closure of the university.
The cases had been registered under various sections of the IPC including attempt to murder, rioting and arson, AMU sources said.
Meanwhile a meeting of the AMU Executive Council had been convened tomorrow to review the situation in the campus, sources said.
The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abdul Azis also held a meeting of the senior faculty members and deans to take stock of the situation, they said.
About 95 per cent of the students have vacated their respective hostels till today, sources said.
"The process of vacating the hostels is peaceful," AMU spokesman Rahat Abrar said.
He said that the AMU had made special arrangements for the transportation of the students by road and rail.
The varsity was closed sine-die on Monday following violence after killing of a varsity student in the campus.
It was the second sine-die closure of the varsity. The first being in December 1999 following large scale violence in the campus.
