Debutants Fortis slotted four goals during a fine second-half show to subdue Canara Bank 6-2 in the Synergy Sports tier I Super DIvision hockey league at the KSHA Stadium here on Thursday.
Leading from the front in the onslaught was international Dilip Tirkey, who pumped in three penalty corner drag flicks, while former internationals Brojen Singh and Sandeep Michael too contributed to the tally.
Fortis pressed the attack button early on and Tirkey put them ahead with their second penalty corner in the 13th minute. Two minutes later, Michael added another goal for the season with a angled reverse hit.
Still smarting from a defeat against Army Red the other day, Fortis was chased down by Bankmen as a lop-sided affair turned open when Bank scored through a set-piece goal by Benjamin in the 25th minute. Bankmen deservingly found the equaliser just before the breather (34th) when Kaveriappa cleverly avoided the crowded shooting cirlce, and served an unmarked Bopaiah on the right. Bopaiah's hit after entering the circle restored parity and a thrilling contest was on the cards. However, the break-time pep-talk by coach Ashish Ballal did the trick for Fortis as they hardly put a wrong foot thereafter. Tirkey first converted a penalty corner in the 40th minute and then he fed Brojen’s reverse hit goal five minutes later for a two-goal lead. Fortis went 5-2 up with a swift counter-attack when Michael and Brojen produced a one-two and the latter scored in the 53rd minute.
Tirkey rallied together Fortis defence to fend off further casualties and scored again with a 65th minute penalty corner conversion to complete the tally.
