Administrative Reforms Commission Chairman M Veerappa Moily has stated that the government’s reservation policy has increased the pass percentage of the students of socially and economically backward classes over the students of general merit.
He was speaking after inaugurating Adarsha Institute of Management Studies at Ladyhill in the City on Saturday.
He said a nation-wide survey has confirmed this promising trend, particularly in the southern states of India. Mr Moily said the nation is marching on fast strides towards development with a GDP of 9.3 per cent, which will soon become 10 per cent.
For such an achievement, an excellent quality of education for all youth across the country irrespective of their caste and economic background, should be made available, he noted.
In his address, Mangalore University Registrar Dr K Sunder Naik said ‘qualification’ of a person should only be a support pillar, using the assistance of which he should build a prosperous future on his own. He observed that today’s youth lack proper guidance towards the “truths of life”.
