'Removal of govt burial ground fence'
Various organisations stage protest
DH News Service, Tarikere:

Various Muslim and progressive organisations staged a protest for removing the fence of government burial ground by the Tahsildar using police force at Galihalli Cross in Tarikere.

Addressing the protestors, Town Municipality Council former member Shafi Saab said Kamalivale durgha in Galihalli Cross has a history of 300 years. As per the government records, the land has been identified as burial ground for Muslim community. But in the recent few years, the land has landed into unnecessary controversy.

He said few days ago, all the Muslim residents had come into a consensus in the presence of MLA T H Shivashankarappa, wherein it was decided to divide the land into two parts. A portion of the land will be kept aside for burial ground and the rest will be used for constructing a temple and government primary school.

A fence was laid accordingly. Unfortunately, owing to the pressure from some sections of the society officials have removed the fence.

MLA T H Shivashankarappa said that the decision of the officials to remove the fence has created unrest. Officials have taken unilateral decision without consulting the people’s representatives. He also urged the suspension of those officials.
