One dead as rain batters Goa
DH News Service,Panaji:

A 13-year-old girl was killed in the early hours of Saturday in Sattari, North Goa, as incessant rain pounded the Konkan region all through Friday and Saturday.

Additional Collector Swapnil Naik told Deccan Herald that a tree collapsed on a house killing the girl in interior North Goa. A landslide at Neusar near Ratnagiri also blocked the Mumbai-Goa Konkan railway route on Saturday. Three trains were cancelled and the rest were diverted via Lhonda, Konkan Railway Corporation spokesman Baban Ghatge said.

Hundreds of passengers travelling on the overnight Konkan Kanya Express from Mumbai to Goa were stranded for hours at Ratnagiri. The landslide took place at 6.30 am. The KRC deployed buses from Goa to transport the stranded passengers by road.

Konkan rail officials said they expected the line to be cleared by late Saturday night. “We are having problems reaching heavy earth-moving equipment from Goa to the landslide area which is between a tunnel and a bridge with no approach road,” Ghatge said.
