The JD (S) has decided to go for the local body elections alone. However, the Congress is open to the idea of alliance with smaller parties at the district- level.
JD (S) National President H D Deve Gowda speaking to press persons in Bangalore on Saturday said that his party will contest wherever they have a strong party base. “There is no question of contesting where we don’t have a strong base. The party will not go with either the BJP or any other party”, he said. Mr Gowda said he will tour the State to mobilise party workers for the polls after September 4. Congress leaders held a meeting regarding preparations for the local body polls on Saturday. KPCC President Mallikarjuna Kharge said the party is ready to align with smaller parties, only if leaders at the district- level approved it. Moreover, he said candidates of the party will have to face the elections with their own resources as the party does not have sufficient funds to financially assist the candidates.
The BJP has already started preparation for the polls. Recently it held meeting of its party leaders in Bangalore.
