Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Friday achieved the record breaking rally pushing total investor wealth past the Rs 50,00,000 crore milestone for the first time in its history.
In effect, the cumulative market capitalisation of all the 4,500-odd companies listed on the BSE on Friday soared to a new peak of Rs 50,18, 265.06 crore. Sensex rose to a new peak of 16616.84 points before settling 1.32 per cent higher at a new closing high of 16564.23 points. The day’s gain added more than Rs 70,000 crore to investors’ wealth.
The collective market cap of the 30 Sensex scrips on Friday stood at Rs 21,66,048 crore, led by Reliance Industries with over Rs three lakh crore. Total investor wealth rose Rs 5,00,000 crore in little over two months during the Sensex’s journey from 15,000 to 16,000. The market value of all BSE companies was about Rs 44,02,000 crore on July 6, 2007 when the Sensex hit 15,000.
