A day after the government banned the Live India channel for one month for airing the fake sting on Delhi school teacher Uma Khurana, the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) on Friday took strong exception to what it called “the increasing trend of delivering summary punishment” to broadcasters in a “trigger happy” manner. The IBF, said, a series of highly arbitrary and coercive punishments have been delivered by the ministry during the last year to a number of broadcasters at its will. It has alleged that all these punishments have been meted out without following any transparent procedure and violating the basic principle of natural justice.
The government has withdrawn the permission granted to Jeevan Telecasting Corporation Ltd to uplink its Malayalam channel Jeevan TV with effect from September 11. An official release on Friday said Jeevan TV had been carrying news and current affairs programme, for which it did not get security clearance from the Home Ministry.
