In yet another incident of common people taking law into their hands, three suspected thieves were lynched by an irate mob at Kodi village in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district in the wee hours of Friday. Senior IPS officer and Advisor (Jharkhand police) R K Mullick confirmed the incident and said police would investigate how and why the villagers took the law into their hands.
The police are now investigating if the victims of the lynching were thieves or just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sources quoting eyewitnesses said the incident occurred when a 12-member band of thieves, raided Kodi village under Barkakana police station limits of Ramgarh district.
As soon as the thieves struck, the village around 3 am, a group of villagers chased them. Three of the thieves were caught by the villagers, while the rest took to their heels. The villagers thrashed the three thieves, who succumbed to injuries.
