AP blasts: Police at dead-end
Hyderabad, DHNS:

Though the alleged prime suspect in the twin blasts of August 25, a Bangladeshi citizen, Rizwan Ghazi, was arrested by the Hyderabad police after a long manhunt, they could not find any evidence linking him to the terror blasts that killed 43 persons. Ghazi asserted that he was innocent and that he had no links with any terrorist organisation.

The police arrested him for overstaying in the city and produced him before the Metropolitan Sessions Judge on Friday morning. He was remanded to judicial custody for two weeks and was moved to Chanchalguda jail.

Ghazi (25) raised suspicions, since his face bore resemblance to the sketch of the suspect who set off a bomb in Lumbini Park. Police stumbled upon his photo when they took his sister Shafeera Rafsanjani into custody from the Old City. She revealed that they were staying in the city for the past six years, although their visas had expired. She said she was studying in TN.

The police became more suspicious when they found that the duo had false documents including a ration card, drivers’ licence and a PAN card. On being told that Rizwan had gone to Bangalore, the police followed his trail. He was reportedly arrested in Bangalore last week.

Intensive grilling by the police did not reveal any links. Police reportedly found that he had made several calls to Bangladesh after the blasts, but investigations revealed that they were all made to his relatives, who had no links with any terrorist organisation.
