Cricket betting: Three arrested

Police on Saturday arrested three persons for alleged cricket betting and recovered Rs 1.5 lakh cash and four cell phones.


The C K Achchukattu police on Saturday arrested three persons for alleged cricket betting and recovered Rs 1.5 lakh cash and four cell phones.

Umesh (37) of Thyagarajnagar, Kishore (33) of Adugodi and Raja alias Basavaraj (26) of Shankarpura used to contact people on mobile phones and encourage them to indulge in betting. The betting amount was 40 for India and 45 for Australia in the semi final match of Twenty20 World Cup.

It was immediately not known whether the trio had any links with bookies in other major cities in the country .

Pedestrian killed

A pedestrian was killed on the spot in a road mishap involving a BMTC bus in Frazer Town police limits on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Jayaram (48).

According to police, the mishap occurred near Dodda Gunte Circle bus stop when the deceased was trying to board the bus. The pneumatic doors of the BMTC bus closed as he was getting in, resulting in the victim being dragged for a while.

Jayaram sustained severe head injuries and was admitted to Bowring Hospital. He succumbed to injuries later. The bus driver C H Murthy has been arrested.
