On Friday the candidates and the election agents were informed about the code of conduct, during elections to the city municipal councils.

Despite the instructions that were given to the party candidates about the code of conduct, at all most all wards one could see gross violation of the code of conduct.

Though according to the code of conduct, propaganda material should not be tied or posted to the electric and telephone poles, one could see banners, party symbols and life size cutouts of the candidates on all most all poles at many roads such as BB Road, MG Road, Sir MV Road, OPO Road etc.

All these have been done without seeking the permission of the City Municipal Council.

In addition to all these, the voters themselves have acknowledged to the fact that several party candidates have lured them to vote for them. In several wards the distribution of money and liquor is being done without any hindrance.

It is saddening that the election officers are themselves not taking any stringent steps to curb the violation of the code of conduct.
