Raju Poojary and Sujatha Vasudeva have been elected as the Udupi Zilla Panchayat President and Vice-President respectively on Monday.
Experienced politician, Congress leader Raju Poojary was elected without any cross voting with 13 votes and rival candidate BJP’s Jerold Fernandes gained 11 votes.
Sujatha Vasudeva of Congress has been elected as Vice-President defeating her BJP rival N B Babu with 13 votes. N B Babu got 11 votes in the process.
Mr Poojary is a BCom graduate from Bandarkar’s College of Kundapur taluk. He joined Congress as its youth member in 1987 and became President of its Youth wing in 1998. He is the Director of SCARS and TAPCMS from 3 years. He was selected as Shiroor Gram Panchayat President in 2000.
Priority
Speaking to presspersons, the newly elected President said “solving drinking water problem in the district will be given top priority in my tenure.”
He said attention will be paid towards the basic necessities of the public and assured that any welfare programmes announced by the Central government will be delivered to the members of the public without any delay.
