'CM's visit is election gimmick'
DH News Service, Tumkur:

With the elections fast approaching the fever is hotting up. There is lot of curiosity with Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy himself visiting the district on Tuesday for canvassing for the Kunigal municipal elections.

According to the programme list the CM will first make an election speech in Kunigal and later that night address the party workers in Tumkur.

The JD (S) workers under the leadership of legislator H Ningappa are making all arrangements for the CM’s visit. But this visit of his has become the barb for the coalition government partner BJP.

BJP’s local leader and Mysore Paper Mills chairman B Suresh Gowda said, “The CM visiting Kunigal is just a political gimmick and it is nothing but the despondency of the local legislators.”

A couple of days earlier, had Suresh Gowda had put across the same point and commented, “For what earthly benefit is Kumarswamy visiting Kunigal. In spite of his earlier visits, nothing much has changed here.”

In reality the coalition partners BJP and JD (S) have never seen eye-to-eye in Kunigal. Now with the local body elections, they have moved further away from one another. Suresh Gowda has gone hammer and tongs against the JD (S) legislators. This is the first time the BJP is contesting in 20 wards out of the 23 wards.

“The BJP has a very good chance in the municipal elections this time. There is also a wave in our favour. All the calculations of the JD (S) and the Congress are going to go haywire. Getting a inkling of this and becoming depressed the JD (S) leaders are inviting the CM to perk them up,” said Suresh Gowda in a mocking tone.

The BJP has taken the elections very seriously this time and hence party president Sadananda Gowda, Dr V S Acharya, Ramachandra Gowda and other leaders have been on a campaign trail. Now it is the turn of the CM. All in all Kunigal is attracting everyone’s attention.
