A militant outfit on Monday demanded Rs 2 crore as ransom for the release of three government officials it kidnapped from North Cacher Hills district of Assam.
Police said the militants of a faction of the Dima Halam Daogah (DHD) abducted Agriculture Development Officer B M Barua, Junior Engineer Anjan Hafila and a worker of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Dinesh Teron from a remote village near Umrangshu in the N C Hills district.
The DHD has since long been pursuing an armed rebellion with the professed objective of creating a separate homeland for the Dimasas, most of who live in the N C Hills district with a spillover population in neighbouring Karbi Anglong.
