While some may subscribe to a preferred daily for most part of their lives, others are in the habit of writing ‘Letters to the Editor’ on any and every issue that is covered in newspapers.
But seldom do you see allegiance reach a stage where a reader compiles his letters into a book for posterity. This is exactly what Dr A N Sudarshan Rao, Professor (Retd) in the University of Agricultural Sciences has done.
A man of letters, Dr Rao began his hobby more than three decades ago, when he began subscribing and writing for his favourite news daily. Yes, you guessed it right - Deccan Herald. Call it interest or pastime, the articulate professor wrote on a range of issues from letters to features and middles and miscellany to columns in a lucid style.
The book itself, ‘Imprint-Reprint’ reveals his occasional flights into varied subjects, viz filmsongs of yesteryear from legends such as Saigal-Pankaj Mullick to justice reforms discussed in the House of Commons.
A not-for-sale publication, the book contains letters with the date of publication, which Dr Rao says will be cherished as a memoir. Unequalled dedication it surely is!
