“Since this is the first Twenty20 World Cup and that is the format of our tournament, we felt it was fitting to have this team come and play our Super Star Team next year,” Stanford said.
“It will be the perfect culmination of our 2008 Stanford 20/20 Programme.”
The invitation was extended by Stanford along with West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) president Julian Hunte, along with nine members of the Stanford 20/20 Board. Among the legends in South Africa are Sir Vivian Richards, Michael Holding, Rev Wes Hall, Lance Gibbs, Richie Richardson, Joel Garner, Desmond Haynes and Courtney Walsh.
The US$5 million winner-take-all match is scheduled for June 29 at the Stanford Cricket Ground in Antigua. The Super Star Team will be chosen from players playing in the Stanford 20/20 regional tournament across the Caribbean from January 25 to February 24 next year.
