The will he or won't he drama ended on Tuesday alright, but the suspense continues regarding Lleyton Hewitt's participation in the $416,000 Kingfisher Airlines Open ATP Tour event here.
The Australian, who had pulled out his country's crucial reverse singles Davis Cup World Group play-off match on Sunday, arrived here in the morning. An ATP Tour official confirmed this to the media. “His manager said that Hewitt won't be hitting balls today and was hopeful of playing his match tomorrow."
Hewitt, a former world No 1, was due to take on Novak Djokovic in Belgrade on Sunday.
He was forced to pull out due to a viral infection. "He was too sick to get out of bed," a Tennis Australia official had said.
Having arrived just two days after the infection and running very high temperature, not to mention the long haul from Belgrade, it looks unlikely if the two-time Grand Slam champion would take the court on the morrow.
The biggest draw here following the withdrawals of Russian Marat Safin and Cypriot Maros Baghdatis, Hewitt is scheduled to take on qualifier Ti Chen on Taipei.
Wednesday's order of play was yet to be released.
