'BCA candidates are now STs'
Mysore, DHNS:

Former corporator N B Kamala has alleged that certain candidates are contesting from the wards reserved to the categories that are different from the ones that they competed under before in the corporation election.

Addressing a press conference, here on Thursday, she said that JD (S) member Indira who had contested from Kyathamaranahalli under BC A Woman in the 1996 corporation election, is now in the fray in the same ward which is reserved to ST Woman.

Same way, BJP member M Narayanappa who had contested from Veeranagere which was reserved for BC A in 2001, is presently an ST candidate of the same ward.

Kamala who noted that she has necessary documents to substantiate her claim, also maintained that she will next approach the court since the authorities concerned have failed to take necessary action despite being written to about the matter.

She also pointed out that Congress candidate Kamala Venkatesh is also contesting from Veeranagere which is reserved to ST Woman though she belongs to the Besta community and that she is collecting proof to prove her point.

Charging the Tahasildar with misappropriation, she said that he has given two different caste certificates to each of them. Though she had filed an objection in this regard during the filing of nominations, the Election Officer has failed to verify the certificates properly and cross check them with the documents available with them.

Even the Chief Election Officer has not responded to her complaint, she charged. The DC should initiate action and disqualify the candidates, she demanded. Also, demanding the an inquiry be conducted into the issue, Kamala urged that immediate action be taken in this regard as the move amounts to depriving the eligible people of the community of proper political representation.
