The local body elections held to Tumkur, Tiptur and Sira CMCs saw voter turnout of 65 percent. Polling in Tumkur, Tiptur and Sira CMCs, Madhugiri, Pavagada, Kunigal and Chikkanayakanahalli TMCs and Gubbi, Turuvekere and Koratagere Town Panchayats were largely peaceful.
The average polling in the district was recorded at 65 per cent.
However, Koratagere recorded the highest turnout of 76 per cent while Tumkur was at the lowest, with only 60 percent voters turning up to exercise their franchise.
Polling in Tiptur and Sira CMCs was 64 and 73. In Gubbi, it was 68 pc, Kunigal 72, Chikkanayakanahalli 67, Madhugiri 65, Pavagada 69 and in Turuvekere it was 65 percent.
The police however had to resort of lathi charge twice to prevent clashes over personal reasons between workers of different parties in Kunigal.
Minimum force was also used in Jaipura and N R Colony in Tumkur City to prevent small misunderstandings blowing up into major incidents.
In Kunigal, a verbal duel between supporters of the JD (S) and independent candidate resulted in injury to one Samiulla, necessitating police intervention. In Turuvekere, a person was held on charges of fake voting and a case was registered.
In Tiptur, a miscreant tried to stab the sister of a contestant, following which she sustained injuries. The assailant has been arrested.
In Tumkur, it was reported that Independent candidate Humayun was assaulted by Congress workers while in Koratagere, Congress and JD (S) workers clashed with each other, the reports added.
