Shrimp Bruschetta wouldn’t have meant much to an average Bangalorean 10 years ago. Times have changed. And global cuisine is the order of the day. Now, if Goong Hor Baitey sounds Latin to you, sorry, you haven’t arrived. With the onset of monsoon and fresh catches from the sea, seafood restaurants are leaving no stones unturned to entertain their clientele. The seafood festival is already on at F&B on St Mark’s Road.
The menu is compact with a few choices in European, Oriental and Indian. From the starters, Shrimp Bruschetta would be an ideal choice. Shrimps tossed with cherry tomatoes, basil and lime and served on a warm piece of French bread is tasty and innovative at the same time. And so is Salmon Affumicato. But if smoked salmon isn’t appetising enough, go for Moules Marinere instead. Fresh mussels cooked with dry white wine, shallots, lime and parsley, Moules Marinere is probably the kind of start you are looking for.
Go Oriental with Goong Hor Baitey (tiger prawns wrapped in pandanus leaves and deep fried) or stick to this side of the continent with Tandoori Seafood Sampler.
A traditional Italian soup, Seafood Minestrone, is the only soup available here. In the main course, it’s thumbs up to Sole A’La Meuniere which is cooked in full view of the customers. These fillets of sole pan fried with melted butter and accompanied with an assortment of fresh vegetables is a healthy, yet tasty option. Then there is Grilled Lobster marinated with lemon grass, tamarind and sweet basil served with mushroom and greens.
But if you detest monstrous lobsters staring at you from the table, Meen Chettinad could serve you just right. Accompanied with a generous serving of steamed rice, this dish isn’t over the top.
If not for anything else, F&B should be visited for the exhaustive list of desserts on the menu.
The festival is on till September 30 at their Bouquet restaurant for lunch and dinner.
