Innovate Eyes, an event management company, is organising a two-day dance festival this weekend called ‘Nritya Sinchana’ by artistes from Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai. On September 29, they will present ‘Daasaru Kanda Krishna’ that according to a release, seeks to make visual the ‘leelas’ of Lord Krishna as described by the Haridasas in their works. For this production — that has been choreographed by Leela Samson, the director of Kalakshetra Foundation — the team has compositions of Purandara Dasa and Kanaka Dasa.
On September 30, the artistes will present on stage ‘Sri Rama Vanagaman’ that will be about Kaikeyi’s attempt and success at winning the throne for her son Bharatha just when Rama was to be crowned king, states a release. This dance drama is choreographed by Rukmini Devi Arundale who founded the Kalakshetra in 1936 and has to her credit, over 30 dance dramas and many other solo compositions.
The artistes who will perform in the City are Shyamijith, Ganga, Rakesh, Sanjith, Shaly Rajamally, Arun Sankar, Meera Aravind among others. On the music will be Hari Prasad, Sai Shankar, Jyothishmathi, Nattuvangam Sheejith Krishna, Anil Kumar and Srinivasan, among others.
The dance festival is scheduled to be held at Mangala Sabhangana, NMKRV College premises, Jayanagar on September 29 and 30 at 6:45 pm onwards. For details call: Innovate Eyes on 41125733.
Shakespeare for children
EasyLib.com, the online library is hosting a reading of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Theatre artist Arka Mukhopadhyay will be performing a child friendly adaptation of the classic to bring alive the magic, mystery and beauty of this fantasy tale.
