Six-year-old raped
A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped and later thrown on a railway track in the Dadanagar area here, the police told the PTI in Kanpur.
The police rushed the victim to a local hospital on being informed on Thursday evening that an injured girl was lying on the railway track.
Medical examination of the girl confirmed that she had been assaulted. The police is searching for the suspect, a rickshaw-puller, said family members.
36 killed in animal attacks
With an increase in wildlife population due to a strict ban on hunting, 36 persons were killed and 217 injured in attacks by leopards and bears over the past two years, wildlife sources told PTI from Jammu today.
According to a survey conducted during the past 6 months, there has been a manifold increase in the wildlife population of Jammu and Kashmir. Orders have been issued by the wildlife department to kill the man-eaters and one leopard has been killed so far.
Heroin worth 50 lakh seized
Heroin worth Rs 50 lakh was seized by the police in the Sadar area here on Thursday, reports PTI from Kannauj.
Three persons found in posession of the banned substance were immediately arrested, police said. The accused who were carrying 500 gms of heroin are being questioned by the police.
Schoolgirls prone to anaemia
Nearly 70 per cent of girls were found prone to anaemia and suffering from low haemoglobin levels, in a survey conducted here recently, reports PTI from Nasik.
The haemoglobin levels of around 5,000 school girls, all ageing around 12 years, were tested, and in majority of the cases, they were found to be below normal, Nasik Obstetric and Gynaecological Society (NOGS) said.
