Inzy in a spot of bother
Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq could be prosecuted if he fails to turn up as a witness in the racial discrimination suit filed by sacked Australian umpire Darrell Hair against the ICC at the Central Office of London Tribunals. Inzamam, who was served the witness summons last Friday, has left for Pakistan without contacting Hair’s lawyer Finers Stephens Innocent.
KSCA cash prize for Uthappa
The Karnataka State Cricket Association has decided to award a prize of Rs 10 lakh to Robin Uthappa, who was part of the Indian team that won the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa. Venkatesh Prasad, the bowling coach of the team, will be given Rs 5 lakh, according to KSCA.
Delhi HC quashes WFI order
The Delhi High Court on Friday quashed Indian Weightlifting Federation’s suspension on Anita Kumari for testing positive during the Senior National Championship in December last year, reports PTI from New Delhi.
Setting aside the order passed by the game’s governing body, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul allowed her to participate in the national training camps.
The Court also accepted her plea and directed IWF to conduct her A and B sample tests outside the country as the weightlifter had alleged that the federation had violated World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules while taking samples.
Dhanraj’s father passes away
Former hockey player and Dhanraj Pillay’s father Nagalingam Pillay died on Friday, reports PTI from Pune.
He was 76. Nagalingam played for Maharashtra for over a decade. He is survived by wife, four sons and a daughter.
Donald turns down Eng offer
South African Allan Donald has turned down an offer to be England's full-time bowling coach, the England and Wales Cricket Board said on Friday, reports Reuters from London.
The 40-year-old told the Board he did not want to accept the job for family reasons.
Donald was employed initially on a five-week contract in May and stayed on to coach the England side during the Twenty20 World Cup tournament.
Federer pulls out of Japan Open
World number one Roger Federer has pulled out of next week's Japan Open due to fatigue, reports Reuters from Tokyo. Federer, who won the Tokyo title last year, said he had yet to recover after winning his fourth straight US Open.
Bengal move past Karnataka
Bengal defeated Karnataka 2-1 in a quarterfinal league match of the sub-junior National football championship at Haldwani on Frday.
P Rajkiran put Karnataka ahead before Bengal struck through Suprovan Dhar and Amit Kumar Singh. Delhi lost to Goa 1-3 in another Group B encounter.
