Godkhindis cast a spell on Mlore
DH News Service,Mangalore:
Tonight shall be dedicated in the name of Master Shadaj Godkhindi, son of flute maestro Praveen Godkhindi, who shared the stage with his father and grandfather Pandit Venkatesh Godkhindi in a unique programme that for the first time in history of Indian music brought three generations of artists on the same platform.

The six and the sixty are alike, goes a popular saying.

Here is a 6-year-old who abides by the saying following the footsteps of his 60-year-old grandfather and a 30-year-old father keeping up their legacy word to word.

Swar Sagar, a musical night by the Godkhindis, was a novel experience for Mangaloreans, who swarmed into the TMA Pai convention centre in the city despite the bad weather.

The show started with a solo performance by Master Shadaj who stole the show with his brilliant recital in raag Hamsadhwani. He was assisted on Tabla by his uncle Kiran Godkhindi. The toddler, however, seemed to be extremely comfortable with the stage and won much applause whenever he tried something difficult for his age.
This was followed by a much awaited concert by the Godkhindi trio which showed featured the three different styles and looks apart from the age of the artists.

They performed in raag Yaman starting with vilambit ek taal and slowly progressing through druth ek taal to druth teen taal. They were accompanied by Kiran Godkhindi as well as on Swaramandal by Anand Kulkarni.
What followed was a different genre of music by the popular fusion band Krishna instituted by Praveen Godkhindi.

The artists who took part in the fusion concert are Madhusudhan (tabla, dholak), V Umesh (key board), D Srinivas Achar (guitar), Calan Alexander (bass guitar), Padmanabh Kamath (rythm pads) and Kiran Godkhindi (tabla), apart from Praveen Godkhindi. They started off with a number in raag Mohan (Bhoop) with a recital on Lord Krishna. The difference was only that key board and Guitar are used where only the Tamburu used to be earlier.
The event was organised by Aalap event management team and sponsored by Jyoti Laboratories, Cycle brand agarbathis and Prajavani.
