DK banks cross 15,319 cr business

Banks in Dakshina Kannada district have crossed business level of Rs 15,319 crore as on June 2007, informed Deputy General Manager of Syndicate Bank K U Shanbag.

 
Speaking at the District Consultative Committee and District-level Review Committee meeting for banking development organised by the Lead Bank at the Zilla Panchayat office here on Saturday, he said that this level of business is achieved by 370 bank branches in the district. There has been an increase in deposit by 24.5 pc and advances by 19.2 pc.

The committee reviewed the performance of the banks under banking statistics, implementation of district credit plan 2007-08 for the first quarter ended June 2007 and Government sponsored schemes.
For the farming sector, the banks have allocated Rs 607.92 crores for the first quarter while the credit disbursement is Rs 316.19 crores. On the other hand, the allocation for non-farming sector has been Rs 287.36 crores and credit disbursement Rs 24.17 crores.

Loans sanctioned
NABARD AGM K P Udupa informed that the banks have sanctioned loans to 102 beneficiaries under the Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yojana and Backward Classes and Minorities Development Corporation schemes, 113 cases under Chaitanya Scheme and 161 cases under Swavalambana Scheme and 25 cases under SC/ST development corporation. As many as 3,604 Self Help Groups have been formed in the district under the Stree Shakti programme and the banks have sanctioned loans to 50 groups during the year, he added.

Financial inclusion

Dakshina Kannada district will be declared fully financially included soon, as the banks in the district have completed opening no-frills SB accounts of the families with the help of three major NGOs of the district, said P D Ravikumar from RBI.

He requested the public that if any families have been left out, they may approach the nearest bank and open a savings Bank account. Under this programme, the banks have opened 89252 no-frills accounts and provided general purpose credit cards to 3546 families amounting to Rs 599.78 lakhs.

ZP CEO A M Kunjappa presided over the meeting. Lead Bank Manager Udayakumar Holla presented the agenda.
Executives and district co-ordinators from banks, Heads of Government departments and NGOs participated in the meeting.
