The story revolves around two sisters, played by Rani Mukherjee and Konkona Sen Sharma. They live with their parents, Anupam Kher and Jaya Bachchan, in Benares. Circumstances and the search for a better standard of living lead Rani to Mumbai, where she falls in love with Abhishek Bachchan. Konkona finds love with Kunal Kapoor.
