After a fruitful campaign in the Twenty20 World Cup, Harbhajan Singh said he was geared up to play an important role in an equally challenging series against Australia.
"Every match is important and we know that the series against Australia is very important. They are the 50 overs World Cup champions and we are the Twenty20 World Cup champions, so it will be interesting," the Punjab off-spinner said.
"Australia is a very good team and they will definitely come hard at us. And if we play to our potential, I am sure that we are capable of beating any team. They don't like to get beaten and the win against them in the Twenty20 World Cup was a great one. We are looking forward to playing in the series, and again playing important roles and winning the series for India," he added.
Harbhajan said, though the time away from the Indian team was frustrating for him, he was always confident that he would make a comeback.
"Time away from team can be frustrating. But I had the hunger to prove myself again and that kept me going. There was a lot of talk going about my bowling. At the end of the day, I knew that it was just a matter of time before my comeback into the team. But I have to keep working on my game and keep coming hard whenever I play any kind of cricket. In that sense, the chance to play in county cricket was a blessing," he said.
The offie said he had relished the responsibility of being the seniormost bowler in the side. "It adds a lot of responsibility when you are the senior bowler in the team. You have a lot of responsibility and you have to take it. So I took all the challenges and it was great to support my young captain," he said.
That point made the talk veer towards Dhoni’s captaincy. "He is a great guy and you could see how nicely we gelled together as a team. A lot of credit goes to Dhoni's captaincy. He would listen to everybody and take everybody's opinion before making a decision. I am sure with the kind of ability he has, not only in his batting, but as a captain too, he can definitely be one of the great captains. It is our responsibility to give him support.”
