Services champions
Bangalore, dhns:

Services, powered by its stars from the Army Service Corps, Bangalore, won the men’s team title in the National taekwondo championships that concluded at Visakhapatnam on Friday.

With four gold, one silver and two bronze medals, Services tallied 75 points, leaving Madhya Pradesh (35) way behind. Manipur, who, unlike Services had teams in the men’s and women’s sections, were the overall champions, with 76 points. A Pradeep Singh (fin weight), Abdul Moin Khan (fly), Sandeep Kumar (feather), Ibrahim Khan (welter), all from ASC were the gold medal winners. P Silas (middle) won the silver medal while Nirmal Singh (heavy) and Jaman Singh (light) claimed bronze medals.

“We won seven medals from eight weight categories, a big improvement from last year when we had one gold two silver and one bronze,” said Col N S Rajpurohit, who was in charge of the coaching camp at ASC. “Systematic training under coaches Subedar Ramesh Raju and hawaldar Rakesh Singh led to our success,” he added.
