Fighter Shane Mosley used the notorious BALCO steroids “the clear” and “the cream” as well as EPO before a 2003 fight against Oscar de la Hoya, the SI.com sports website reported.
The report on the Sports Illustrated website said that BALCO investigator Jeff Novitzky alleged that Mosley began using those two drugs - identified by investigators as the synthetic steroid THG and testosterone - as well as the blood-booster EPO, two months before the light middleweight championship fight won by Mosley.
Novitzky made the allegations at an anti-doping conference last year, the report said.
Mosley was a client of the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative, a nutritional supplement firm used by many sports figures which was later fingered by authorities as the producer of the synthetic steroid THG.
“Mosley’s alleged prescribed regimen bore striking similarities to that of former world champion sprinter Michelle Collins, who was implicated in the BALCO investigation and was served with a four-year suspension, despite never having tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug,” the report said.
Mosley was subpoenaed in the investigation of BALCO and testified before the grand jury in 2003.
