Ravi Shastri visits NCA
Ravi Shastri paid his first visit on Friday to the Bangalore-based National Cricket Academy after being appointed as its new chairman by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, reports DHNS from Bangalore.
The former India captain spent some time with NCA Administrative Manager Col Nair trying to get an idea about the functioning of the academy. The former India all-rounder is likely to visit the academy again later this month or early next month.
Hammer great Zsivotzky dead
Former Olympic hammer champion Gyula Zsivotzky has died aged 70, the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB) said on Saturday, reports Reuters from Budapest.
Zsivotzky won at the hammer title at the 1968 Mexico City Games with a throw of 73.36 metres after battling illness.
Before the 1964 Tokyo Games, where he won a silver, Zsivotzky spent 200 days in hospital after undergoing stomach surgery and lost 17 kg.
Big cash prize for Misbah
Misbah-ul Haq, who almost took the Twenty20 World Cup to Pakistan before being holed out to Indian bowler S Sreesanth in the final over, has received one million Pakistani Rupees from PepsiCo for his outstanding performance, reports UNI from Lahore.
Misbah miscued a Joginder Sharma delivery to hole out to fine leg in the final over with Pakistan needing six runs from four balls in the grand finale in Johannesburg but he was Pakistan’s batting mainstay throughout the tournament.
Akhtar’s brawl inquiry begins
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) disciplinary committee probing the dressing room brawl in which he allegedly hit Mohammad Asif with a bat on the eve of the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa, began its task of framing charges on maverick pacer Shoaib Akhtar, reports UNI from Lahore.
Pollock may play first Test
Shaun Pollock’s chances of playing in the first Test against Pakistan brightened as Morne Morkel sprained his left foot during practice and is doubtful for the match beginning Monday, reports PTI from Karachi.
South African coach Mickey Arthur said Morkel may miss the game.
