Stressing the need for exploring the possibilities of space in social and cultural fields, National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) Director, K Kasturirangan on Saturday said that it would lead to enhancement of these fields.
Speaking at the Bangalore Space and Culture Symposium 2007, Mr Kasturirangan said that the intersection of space and science in these fields would help in preserving and also would lead to further exploration of the social and cultural aspects in the world.
“ Our space programmes apart from carrying out work in the scientific fields is also actively involved in various community development programmes. There is also need for intersection of space and science in the social and cultural aspects,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Roger Malina, chairman ISAST, Executive Editor, Leonardo Publications said that there needs to be a lot more caution as far as scientific inventions around the world were concerned.
“ The seeds sown by scientific inventions is not very encouraging, there needs to be a lot more thought going into these inventions, as it should not cause any harm to mankind,” Mr Malina observed.
Other eminent speakers, comprising of philosophers, space scientists, educators and artists discussed and examined current themes at the intersection of space, science, technology and art froms, a cultural perspective.
