Make learning interesting:Teachers told
DH News Service,Bangalore:

The second day of CII-IQ National Summit on Quality in Education emphasised on innovations and accountability to enhance quality in education sector.

One of the reasons for high drop out rate in schoolchildren is the boring way of teaching, said Dr G K Jayaram, Founder Director, Institute of Leadership and Institutional Development.  He said that in India, 40% of the children drop out of schools by standard V, 55% by standard VIII and 66% by standard X. “We can’t rest all responsibility on the government. We need innovation to make a child curious and generate the desire to learn,” Dr Jayaram added.

Ecoscience Research Foundation Managing Director Prof Sultan Ahmed Ismail said that subjects can be taught using simple tools and models to make learning more interesting. “Innovation does not mean that we always think high-end, expensive technologies or high-technology laboratories,” he added.

K Latha, Research Associate, School of Science, National Institute of Advanced Studies, emphasised on Art in Education where students learn their basics with the help of their own innovated ideas.

‘Until the accountability in education sector increases, the quality of education will not improve’ was the primary point of discussion during the session on Orchestrating Learning for Teachers. V Kovichelvan, Senior Vice President, HR & TQC, TVS Motor Company Ltd said the need is to prepare better business models, which provide quality education to students. The corporate sector has performance appraisals for each employee and the same can be followed for the performance of teachers, the speakers chorused.

HR development

Principals of the schools need to show the way for human resource development at the school level, said Aslesha Thakur, Head- Education Empowerment, Educomp Solution Limited. To make an impact on the students and enhance quality of education, the training programmes must change the attitude of teachers first, said Anstup Naik, Partner, iDiscoveri Education.

Involvement of the whole community in the process of education is a must as a child gets influenced the most by the community he lives in, said Padmanabha Rao, Founder, Rishi Valley Institute of Education Research.
