Cong workers' meet on forthcoming MCC polls
'Tickets for committed workers'
DH News Service, Mangalore:
The Congress workers' meet convened by the North Block Congress Committee in the City on Sunday, made it clear to the aspiring candidates that their commitment towards the party would be the sole criterion to get tickets for them.

The Congress workers’ meet convened by the North Block Congress Committee in the City on Sunday, as a preliminary step towards the forthcoming City Corporation elections, made it clear to the aspiring candidates that their commitment towards the party would be the sole criterion to get tickets for them.

Senior Congress leaders M Veerappa Moily and B Janardhana Poojary, who addressed the workers, told in clear words that the responsibility of selecting the candidates would lie on the Block Congress presidents, on whose recommendations the District Congress Committee would finalise the list.

“They know what happens in the grassroots level and have a clear idea regarding the commitment of the candidate towards the party. The earlier mistakes in this direction should be a lesson for us now,” noted Mr Moily.

When Mangalore is going to be one of the mega cities of the world, the future rulers should be aware of the expected competency from their side. The City will be a forum for prosperity and centre of human resource, he said and added that the party workers should serve the people keeping these points in their mind.

The notion that - becoming people’s representatives is an avenue to make money - should be eliminated. The candidates should develop the nature of self assessment of their functioning, Mr Moily advised.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Poojary called upon the aspiring candidates not to forget the voters who would be responsible for their victory. He criticised that some of the workers within the party were carrying out false propaganda against their own contemporaries in order to obtain an opportunity in the election.

Mr Poojary also charged the State coalition government for creating confusions among the people and the JD(S) President H D Deve Gowda “for bringing communal powers into power in South India”. Party leaders B A Moideen, B Ramanatha Rai, U T Khader, Vijayakumar Shetty, Suresh Ballal and Sadanand Poonja were present on the occasion.
