In the wake of complaints from the customers regarding the delay in the supply of domestic gas, Headquarters Assistant (HQA) Akram Pasha instructed the gas agencies to compulsorily mention the serial numbers of the LPG cylinders in the contact book while distributing the refilled cylinders.
Presiding over a Food Adalat held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Saturday, he said the serial number of LPG cylinders being supplied to the district had been reduced drastically. Besides, the domestic cylinders are being misused for commercial purposes. The numbering system has been introduced to avoid this, he said.
Food and Civil Supplies Department Deputy Director Manteswamy said the system had already been introduced in Somwarpet and Virajpet taluks, due to which the situation has come under control to a larger extent. It has been instructed that the system should be introduced in Madikeri taluk too, he said.
The misuse of the cylinders will be identified by mentioning the cylinder number in the book while delivering it to the customer and checking the same while getting the empty cylinder back for refilling. Hence, the system is made mandatory among the gas agencies throughout the district. If not followed, the agencies will be made responsible, he said.
In the wake of repeated reports in the media regarding the illegal use of domestic cylinders for vehicles in areas like Shanivarasanthe and Somwarpet, the HQA asked the department to take proper action against the accused.
However, the department DD informed the Adalat that a vigilance squad has already been formed in this direction.
Proposals will be submitted to the government to open gas agencies in Siddapur, Suntikoppa, Napoklu and Shanivarasanthe, and gas refilling centres (for vehicles) in Kushalnagar, Madikeri and Gonikoppalu, Mr Manteswamy said.
Akshara Dasoha Nodal Officer drew attention of the meet towards the increasing cases of stealing of gas cylinders from the schools.
Besides, as the scheme has been extended to high schools this year, the demand is increasing for new connections, he informed.
