A big cultural event was held in Tumkur after a gap of so many years. The cultural activities were spread across 45 days. Tumkur’s Nataka Mane’ was responsible for this event. Moreover, the National School of Drama and the regional resource centre of the NSD backed up the efforts of the Nataka Mane.
Also, it is for the first time that a State-level theatre workshop of the NSD was being held in small city like Tumkur.
On Saturday night the final day of the theatre workshop ‘Mandodari Ramayana’ was played.
Theatre workshop, which was held for more than a month at the Dr Gubbi Veeranna Kalakshetra has been a great success.
This theatre workshop was held for those who were talented in theatre and who could not possibly undergo long term training in theatre. It is a significant fact that the NSD had chosen Tumkur to host such an event.
The workshop which started on July 20 provided training in various facets of theatre right from the NSD graduates and exponents in the field.
It proved very beneficial to the students. The wide exposure given to the students in the workshop at the hands of some of the best professionals would guide them in their experiments in theatre and its various activities.
The training at the workshop encompassed sound, costumes, light, preparation of masks and numerous other aspects of the vibrant art form theatre.
Vyasa Deshpande’s ‘Mandodari Ramayana’ and Prof Srinivasa Raju’s ‘Edhu Karana’ was the result of the workshop. These two plays were enacted by the participants of the workshop and was shown to the general public for free during the last four days of the workshop.
‘Mandodari Ramayana’ was directed by Suresh Anagalli threw light on the various reasons responsible for the warfare in Ramayana as shown from different perspectives which indeed was a treat to watch.
While, ‘Edhu Karana’ directed by Gopalakrishna Nayari portrays in a very effective manner the importance attached to money even during one’s death and how others wait for it like vultures all the time.
