Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Oscar Fernandes on Sunday said he would urge the Centre to notify Bangalore as a ‘metro city’ and grant it ‘A-1 city’ status.
Speaking at the All India Postal Employees Union Group ‘C’ Silver Jubilee celebrations, he said: “If Hyderabad has been conferred A-1 city status, then Bangalore can’t be ignored. I will take up the issue with the Centre once I reach Delhi,” he said.
He said a Bill for the welfare of unorganised labour will be introduced in the ongoing Parliament session addressing issues concerning unorganised labour, including employment guarantee schemes, retirement and maternity benefits. “The Cabinet has approved the Bill and the Prime Minister confirmed government’s commitment to implement the Bill in his Independence Day address,” he said.
He assured the postal employees’ union the government was committed to improving their working conditions and discussions were on to increase staff strength.
No-talks with JD (S)
Speaking to reporters later, he said he was unaware of any talks with the Janata Dal (S) to form a coalition government in the State and denied a change of guard in the State Congress leadership. He said KPCC Chief Mallikarjuna Kharge was doing a good job.
