Kolar clash: It is police vs politicians
H H Dayananda, DH News Service, Kolar:

Kolar is returning to normalcy after a simple altercation went out of control and became a law and order issue. Meanwhile few politicians are making the best of the situation to their benefits.

At the peace meet on Saturday, the masks of several politicians were lifted and the real picture brought out in the open.

The police have taken legal action against the  youths who not only caused a motor cycle to crash but also assaulted police personnel in mufti.

Few politicians and personalities with vested interest tried to take advantage of the situation but the police did not allow any such opportunity.

They retaliated by creating a problem and the police had to inevitably resort to lathi charge, bursting of tear gas lobes and shooting in air.

Finally the situation came under control and the citizens heaved a sign of relief.

However, the tone of few politicians who spoke at the peace meeting on Saturday reflected their don't-care-less attitude towards law and order.

They held the police responsible for all the misdeed. Instead of creating a harmonious atmosphere, the law makers tried to place the blame squarely on the police system in the district.

Looked like legislator Naseer Ahmed, is trying to politicise the incident for personal gains. Hitherto Naseer Ahmed has never shown his face in this part of the district, for the past three, four years even when serious problems and clashes occurred.

On Saturday Naseer arrived with his supporters and led a verbal attack on the police and throwing the dignity of the DC’s office to the wind, converted a peace meet into a political one.

Looked like he was trying to get back control over the minorities.  His suggestion that when complaints are registered the police should not take legal action but invite leaders of the communities and try to patch up was a desperate attempt at trying to sabotage the issue.

On the contrary , the police action deserves to be appreciated as the presence of district SP B Dayanand and ASP K Yellappa and taking appropriate decisions caused the trouble to subside and bring the situation under control.

Their only lapse is that there was delay in informing the district in charge Minister, who was present on location.
