Do not fall prey to the trap of neo-cons
Sir,
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is trying to continue the spin on the Indo-US nuclear deal by stating that India should not be left out of the “renaissance of international nuclear trade that is imminent”. These are the agendas of the neo-cons from the US whom we have seen taking umbrage against the nuclear programmes of nations like North Korea and Iran.
Does this not add to the risk of “dirty bombs” being more accessible to international terrorism from nations who may not be able to keep their nuclear installations secure?
Any uncertainty like we have seen in the negotiations with North Korea and Iran over their nuclear programme is used by the US and the West to ratchet up the tension around the world with the objectives to seek attention to themselves of “how they save the world”, to divert attention from more important matters of concern. Therefore we should not walk into the trap of the US neo—cons to support their international agenda.

The high command
Sir,
Sonia Gandhi patting the PM for the nuclear deal amounts to patting herself (self laudatory and congratulatory) as in the UPA nothing moves without her express and implied approval.
And such self patting seems to be comical to say the least! This reminds us a popular saying in Tamil which roughly translated means that without “him” not even an atom moves and “her” should be replaced in place of him in so far as it relates to decisions taken by the UPA! What a pity?

No common sense
Sir,
The Indian Communist Parties are not so bereft of common sense as not to know what is in the interest of the nation.
It is their unfortunate mind set which has bred a congenital anti USA feeling in them. Are they not aware that imperialism has gone out with the 20th century?
They do not understand the fact that the sooner the 123 deal is finalised the better for India, as we stand to gain a lot through nuclear power production. It is unfortunate that the UPA government has to depend on the Left support for survival.

Why Kalam?
Sir,
Till recently we were under the impression that the Basavanna Award was being given to a renowned individual who had made immense contribution to the field of Kannada literature and Kannada language as a whole.
In doing so, this individual should have also contributed to the spread of Basavanna's teachings. This year, the Culture Ministry has selected former President, A P J Abdul Kalam for this award!
In what way has Mr Kalam contributed to the spread of Kannada language? Mr Kalam is a highly respected and learned person, but he certainly does not qualify to receive neither the Basavanna Award nor the Kannada Ratna award.

Is Yoga un-Christian?
Sir,
This refers to the news report, Yoga un-Christian say U K Churches, (DH, Sep 1). It is really surprising and also amusing to note the reaction of the two churches in Britain on conducting of Yoga classes at their premises.
These two Churches branded Yoga as “sham” and “un-Christian”. Some time back it was Swastika issue, which rattled the sentiments of Hindus in Europe.
Anything connected with the ancient Indian methods are branded as religious, perhaps they relate it to Hinduism. One should know that all Yoga teaches pertains to only body and mind fitness. Yoga teaches universal truth and spirit. It is nothing against or for any religion.
