READER'S OPINION
Teachers then and now...
Shainu Mohan

Ajay Kumar, software engineer: It is the responsibility of the teachers and I feel it is them who impart good ideas and good thinking to students and help them progress in life. They help their students to develop mentally as well as emotionally so they grow as one with society. I still remember all the teachers who taught me in school as well as in college and I am grateful to them for the education. I also thank them wholeheartedly for what I am now, because without their help I would not have succeeded in my life.

Denny George, BPO staffer: Technologically our teaching system has progressed a lot. In earlier days every student used to get personal assistance but now it is very less and the teachers are economically politicised. Before teaching was a passion, but now teachers merely teach for monetary gains forgetting the basic ethics of teaching. Now the personal relationship between teacher and student is not there. We find quality teaching only in some of the Christian schools and colleges.

Abraham Sebastian, doctor: In olden days our teaching system was not commercialised and all the teachers were cent per cent dedicated to their profession. They used to love their students and treat them as their own children. But now, perhaps the commitment to their profession is less and they work just for money. The teachers don’t recognise most students in their class. However, there are still many good, dedicated teachers. My son is very fond of his teachers in school

Sahana, BE student: We cannot categorise teachers as good or bad. It is afterall from teachers that we get our basic knowledge. They can be referred to as living gods for the love and wisdom they impart to the students. I really admire such teachers for their dedication and committment. But not all the teachers are the same. Some punish students for silly things. Actually such people are not meant to be teachers; such people only defame the entire teaching community.
